Is it spring where you live? Yes, we do have spring here in Florida! Wherever you are, I hope you’re enjoying the change of season. I’m awaiting the full bloom of the Jacaranda trees in the next week or so, when the whole neighborhood becomes garlanded in purple!

Spring may come with some challenges as well, according to Ayurveda. As we move into the season that’s a little more heavy and damp (kapha), we can sense those qualities in ourselves. Maybe our get up and go feels somewhat elusive or seasonal allergies slow us down. Use the self-care tips below to see if you can balance out some kapha this season, so you enjoy its steadiness without feeling bogged down.
Just pick one or two ideas that seem to resonate with you most. Let me know what you discover.
Routine
Try to wake up earlier in the morning and start your morning with activity.
Keep a regular routine, that allows for some spontaneity.
Consider cleansing practices like body brushing and tongue scraping.
Rest
Avoid over-sleep. Waking in the early morning hours may be a challenge initially, but once it’s established, you’ll love it.
Consider a walk or a sun salutation if get sleepy in the afternoon.
Movement
Get daily exercise that builds a little heat.
Consider poses that lift and expand the chest, like cobra, camel, locust, and dancer.
Nourishment
Stimulate digestion before eating with hot water and lemon.
Favor warm, heating foods with spices, and watch portion sizes.
Use healthy oils and ghee to cook foods.
Connection
Nurture others in a way that empowers them and eases the burden on you.
Suggest a spontaneous get together to a friend. Do something active and inspiring.
Here's to Spring and to balance and your beautiful self-care glow.
