Can't Meditate? Think about it like this.

From doctors to beauty magazines and everywhere in between, meditation is said to be the cure for what ails us. But most people don’t meditate. Maybe you’ve tried it – sitting quietly

on your own and all decked out with apps and good intentions. I hear over and over again from frustrated folks, “I tried to meditate, and I just can’t.”
If this sounds like you, consider this. Meditation is not an attempt to stop your thoughts. It’s choosing one focus (like how your breath feels in your nostrils) and using that focus to get a little distance from your thoughts. I recommend people start with just a few minutes per day like this and then build into a meditation practice eventually.
Another important thing to remember is that though a meditation practice will help you become more peaceful in your mind over time, the experience itself may or may not be relaxing in the moment. If you really need to relax or work with especially difficult thoughts and emotions, there are more helpful practices, like systematic relaxation.
Though meditation is a solo show, getting support can help. If it’s time for you to try or to pick your practice back up again, send me a note. I’d love to connect you with some of our free resources to support your practice.
You can do it. And it will serve you in beautiful ways.
